October 15th I had the honour to be a judge in the cosplay competitions held at Imagicon, a small but very cosy convention in the Netherlands, Ede. Along with Gambette Cosplay and Mr J’s Fortress of Fun I had the task to pick two winners for best costumes and two for best act.
And yes, I forgot all my cosplay plans for this year and unfortunately had to cancel a few of my princess reading appearances as well as my guest appearance as Elsje & Roodhaar which had been planned for Brabants Stripspektakel in Veldhoven because I’m pregnant! And very happy to be so, but it does complicate wearing certain costumes (as I quite quickly wouldn’t fit in them anymore). I chose to appear as a character many will recognise by the hair – which was Harley – and modified a comfortable dress I’d made for the occassion.
You might think that being a Pregnant Harley is unconvenient…. But we actually had a blast during the Cosplay Dating Show, which is an improvised dating panel in which all the characters on stage pretend to be looking for a partner. I secretly hope someone recorded the round with the Joker looking for his date because it finally allowed me to abuse my pregnant state when his first question was “I heard you all prepared a rhyme for me?” and I was proud to improvise the two lines “Je bent misschien wel een vrind, maar ik draag je kind!” as angry as I could. (Translation: You might be a friend but I carry your child). Needless to say the Joker did pick Harley in the end, although reluctantly, and distracted her by pointing at the sign of Batman so he could run off as fast as he could. As Vanne I don’t know how far he got, as Harley I’m pretty sure he didn’t make it out of the theatre,
As to the judging, I’ve written down my experiences in a text as shown below (although in Dutch).
It’s very exciting to be a judge at a convention. To write about it is quite a challenge. In this next item about a Dutch Convention called Imagicon I write about my experience at the con as a judge, the cosplay dating shows that were being held and the cosplay competition and contesters. The quote of the article reads “There were only winners on stage” as everyone looked beautiful during their skits at the competition. I sincerely enjoyed the day and can’t wait for the next convention.

Some more photos with 1) the Ghostbusters as I caught them on their way out. It’s a tradition to take a photo with them whenever I walk into them. 2) Two of the contestors Cherry Cosplay & Jessa. 3) While taking a photo and being pregnant you should always expect your fellow judge member to bomb it… especially when he’s dressed as the Joker.
